The 1920s Chief Justice was William Howard Taft, who served from 1921 to 1930. He was the only person to have held both the office of President of the United States and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Taft was appointed by President Warren G. Harding and was the tenth Chief Justice of the United States. He was known for his conservative judicial philosophy and for his efforts to reduce the workload of the Supreme Court.
