The 1920s Chief Justice was William Howard Taft, who served from 1921 to 1930. He was the only person to have held both the office of President and Chief Justice of the United States. Taft was appointed by President Warren G. Harding and was the tenth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He was known for his conservative views and for his efforts to reduce the backlog of cases before the court. He also worked to improve the efficiency of the court's operations.
