The 14th President of the United States was Franklin PIERCE. He served from 1853 to 1857 and was a member of the Democratic Party. He was born in New Hampshire and was a lawyer before becoming president. He is known for his support of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which allowed the people of those territories to decide whether or not to allow slavery. He also supported the Compromise of 1850, which attempted to resolve the issue of slavery in the United States.
